The Russian special operation and its consequences caused chaos in the domestic car market. Take the same “secondary”: even taking into account wear and tear and other “second-hand” nuances, “second-hand” are offered at a price higher than the original dealer price. Yes, over the years the car has become more expensive than a new one! In such circumstances, it is completely unprofitable to buy a car with mileage. What about selling? What to do for those who once planned to get rid of their “swallow”: wait or act? The answer to this question was found by the AvtoVzglyad portal.
After the start of the special operation, used car prices in Russia immediately rose at least twice. Thanks in large part to official and “gray” dealers rushing to buy used cars to put them in order and put them back up for sale – in the hopes that prices will continue to rise. As for private traders, they have also massively rewritten the price tags or even removed the ads due to uncertainty.
The peak of used car price growth came in mid-April – until then there was a shortage. At the beginning of May there was some clarity, more and more proposals came in. In this regard, prices started to fall slowly and by June they had almost reached the level of February. But does this mean the market has bounced back? Is it profitable to sell “beushki” now or is it better to wait a little longer?
– May broke an anti-record due to too high prices and unfavorable loan conditions, which means that there are many times fewer people who want and have a new car. It seems that this should have increased the demand for used cars, but no, our partners recently put 8 cars up for sale. They set prices below the market – there are no buyers. So I can conclude that the secondary market is now worth it, – Dmitry Matveev, general manager of My Car Rental, told the AvtoVzglyad portal.
In addition, the seasonal factor must also be taken into account: in the summer, when many people go on holiday, the used car market traditionally freezes. Experts from the AVTODOM Group of Companies therefore predict that the trend towards a decline in the cost of used cars is likely to continue in the coming months. At least because the prices are adjusted by dealers who have to keep up with demand.
Talk about vitality. As car dealers suffer huge losses from the suspension of the supply of new cars from abroad and from “frozen” factories, they have had to shift their focus to the “secondary”. And this has led dealers – and official ones – to offer the best prices to used car buyers today, although it has always been the other way around.
But back to topic: to sell or wait?
For those who have a problematic car that requires serious investment, experts recommend not to delay the sale. Why? Because spare parts, consumables and services have risen in price since the beginning of the year, among other things, it is more profitable in the current circumstances to say goodbye to a capricious car than to put it in order. If the car is in good condition, it is better to hold on to it – it will be difficult to exchange it for something decent.
In particular, do not rush to resell the “swallow” to those who own a relatively new car. Since the new car market is now declining rapidly, the “young used car” segment (cars under three years old) will slowly shrink over the coming months and even years, and their prices will only increase. Such a machine is a kind of asset that is getting heavier and heavier.
If there are no options to delay the sale, then when assessing the value of your car in such difficult circumstances, you should act on the usual schedule. First we assign a price that is comfortable for us, and then – if the buyer is not found within a month – we lower it or remove the ad altogether. And in this sense, the owners of Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Volkswagen Polo and Ford Focus are more fortunate – they are still the most popular models on the secondary market.
