Recently, information appeared in the media that allegedly Russians who want to leave the country are being sent back at the border in their own vehicles. However, as the AvtoVzglyad portal found out, this information turned out to be “fake”.

Just a week ago, information appeared on the web that border guards were not letting Russian road travelers out of their native countries, reportedly due to current coronavirus restrictions. In other words, to cross the border, for example for a trip to a resort in Abkhazia or Georgia, or a tourist visit to Lithuania and other countries, you must have documents confirming the fact of treatment, study or work abroad . A good reason to travel may also be the need to care for a close relative or a funeral.

The AvtoVzglyad portal decided to check this information by contacting both the Federal Customs Service and the Border Guard Service of the FSB of the Russian Federation for clarification, where they officially confirmed to us that there are currently no restrictions on the entry and exit of Russians are applied.

Recall that, in accordance with Clause 1 of Government Decree N 763-r of March 27, 2020, temporary traffic restrictions were introduced through automobile, rail, pedestrian, river and mixed checkpoints across the state border of the Russian Federation, as well as through the land portion of the Russian-Belarusian state border. However, the provision of this paragraph with regard to citizens of the Russian Federation entering and leaving the Russian Federation has now been “annulled”.

“If there are valid identity documents, a citizen of the Russian Federation has the option to leave the Russian Federation,” the Russian FSB Border Control Department told the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Customs officers had no questions for car tourists, even in “pandemic” times. Most importantly, travelers should not try to smuggle anything that is prohibited across the border.

“Restrictions on law-abiding citizens of the Russian Federation are not applied. Unless they or the cargo they are carrying arouses any suspicion,” the Federal Customs Service explained to AvtoVzglyad.

Meanwhile, car travelers who wanted to have a budget vacation in Georgia had difficulties crossing the border. The traffic jams at the Upper Lars border crossing extend for several kilometers. Tourists are forced to stand still at the cordon for days. At the same time, local entrepreneurs have not failed to organize a service for those who do not want to eat in traffic jams. Cunning “entrepreneurs” take 10,000 rubles for skip-the-line travel. Read more here.
