The price of diesel fuel on the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange (SPIMEX) rose by 0.94% to the level of 56,769 rubles per ton. This is the maximum ever recorded in the course of trading.
At the same time, the price of gasoline also rose. Notably, AI-92 is now trading at the level of 43,793 rubles per tonne (up 2.29%), while AI-95 has risen to 50,105 rubles per tonne, up 2.45%. The last time petrol showed comparable figures was in mid-March this year.
Apparently, the increase in motor fuel quotes is related to the following changes that the Russian authorities made the day before to the mechanism of the so-called oil damper – a system ultimately designed to smooth out price fluctuations at Russian gas stations.
Recall that recently the amount of payments to oilmen under the damper was reduced. This decision was made due to the fact that Russian oil is now traded at a large discount on foreign markets. Companies responded to such a move by the authorities by raising domestic wholesale fuel prices. Now, following the share prices, the price tags at Russian gas stations will also be rewritten upwards.
