Why Renault was excluded from the parallel import list

Russian officials seriously hoped that the parallel import system would save the Russians from the shortage of cars and spare parts. And while the mechanism, it seems, still hasn’t really worked, it’s being forcibly subjected to “manual settings.”

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Renault brand is excluded from the list of parallel imports. The official reason: JSC AVTOVAZ took on the obligations to provide warranty service for the brand, including the sale of spare parts.

Contrary to the statements of officials, however, the situation is somewhat more complicated. In fact, AVTOVAZ will deal only with repairs, maintenance and supply of spare parts, but MAZ Moskvich will assume warranty obligations for previously produced cars.

Now the flagship of the Russian car giant has finished signing the necessary documents, so in practice no one can imagine how this will be implemented technically.

Recall that the Renault brand has stopped selling its models on the Russian market. And while AvtoVAZ retained the rights to manufacture Logans, Sanderos and Dusters, Togliatti is considering whether the game is worth the candle, as royalties will have to be deducted for each car assembled.

Meanwhile, fans of Renault will have the opportunity to buy cars from the European brand that have become scarce. True, for this you need to make a short trip to visit the nearest Belarusian (!) Dealer.
