According to the CEO of BMW group Oliver Zipse, the first models on the new platform called Neue Klasse will be a sedan the size of the current three-ruble note and a sports crossover. The Germans plan that by 2029, more than a third of the carmaker’s sales will come from models built on this “cart”. It seems that the “Germans” will refuse cars with traditional engines.
Neue Klasse replaces the current platforms – FAAR and CLAR. This is expected to be realized from 2025. The “new class” will make it possible to build electric vehicles of almost any size, form factor and with any type of powertrain. Also, engineers will be able to “play” with the wheelbase, track width and ground clearance.
Together with Neue Klasse, the sixth generation eDrive electric drive technology is introduced, as well as new traction batteries capable of driving up to 700 kilometres. It is also known that Neue Klasse will be the basis for future BMW M sports cars, as well as Rolls Royce models.
