In the new reality of a shortage of cars, private traders and dealers join them in importing foreign cars into Russia en masse through the parallel import window that has been opened. However, people are not flocking to buy these cars. And all because of the lack of a manufacturer’s warranty. However, there was also a way out.

Yes, the showroom counters are already full of foreign cars, from the latest Kia Sportage to the status Land Rover. Foreign cars are brought in as much as possible – a matter of margin. Helping post-Soviet neighbours, Europe and of course the United Arab Emirates. Rich equipment and exclusivity against the background of the absence of cars in the official stock do their job. Yes, and the price tags can be found on the “import” is quite attractive. For example, the Mitsubishi Xpander crossover is sold here for 2,250,000 rubles, which is even cheaper than the domestic Lada Vesta. Good boots, must take!

However, without drawbacks here, as usual, not done. And first of all, we are talking about a manufacturer’s warranty, which, of course, a car brought in “gray” ways does not have. What this means, we think, need not be explained. In short, if something happens to the car, you will have to fix it yourself. Where and how is the big question. However, when the sellers understood this, they began to offer a curious service – a warranty certificate, which has nothing to do with the official obligations of the car manufacturer to customers. But on the other hand, the dealer who sold such a car to the buyer has them. As part of the contract signing, the dealers promise to maintain the car for a specified period of time. So far, as the AvtoVzglyad portal has found out, “warranties” offer from 1 to 2 years. And it’s true: nobody and nothing prevents sellers from importing the necessary spare parts through the same parallel import and replacing them with the efforts of their own craftsmen.

But nobody knows yet whether such a guarantee works in practice. Too little time has passed, there have been no mass calls from car owners. Perhaps this is what business people are counting on, who will simply disappear or change legal entity in a month or two? On the other hand, the agreement on the guarantee obligations of the parties can always be checked with specialized experts and lawyers.

Although, to be honest: in Russia, even the official warranty of importers and dealers did not always work. We do not like such requests from customers and try in every way to “extinguish” them with words from the series “improper operation of the vehicle”. And in the current reality, when the supply of cars and parts is officially frozen, many even say that there is no warranty anymore. As happened to the customer base of Lamborghini, Chevrolet, Ravon and Cadillac dealers. Therefore, with regard to the operation of the “unofficial guarantee”, there are many more questions than answers. And of the answers – almost all of them disappointing. But after all, we’ve been playing Russian roulette all our lives, so nothing new really. Maybe you’re lucky and you don’t break?
