AVTOVAZ is in negotiations with three automatic transmission manufacturers from China. It is expected that two-speed transmissions from the Middle Kingdom will replace the Jatco-manufactured CVT and “automatic”. The plans are really grandiose: in three years Togliatti wants to increase the production of cars with automatic transmission to 60%.

The fact that AVTOVAZ began negotiations on the installation of Chinese “machines” on the model of the Togliatti car giant, the Drom source reports, citing its own sources.

The publication writes that in three years’ time, the company aims to increase production of two-speed cars to 60%, and the only model that will not get an automatic transmission is Niva.

Specific Chinese companies are not mentioned, but it is emphasized that they think of the classic “automatics” with torque converter. We’re even talking about the eight-speed version. However, CVTs are also not discounted and are exploring the possibility of their purchase.

Recall that previously a single-disk “robot” was installed on VAZ cars. The outdated 4-speed hydromechanical “automatic” from the Japanese Jatco was also used, and later – a fairly modern pair, consisting of a 1.6-liter Nissan engine and a Jatco CVT.
