Iranian car manufacturers say cooperation with AVTOVAZ .  off

Last week there was information that Iran’s Saipa, which has been trying to restart production of the Tondar 90 sedan (renamed Renault Logan) for several years, plans to ask AvtoVAZ for help. Now these rumors have been officially disproved: the company does not need any Togliatti units.

As previously reported by Iranian media, the engines are the stumbling block in the Tondar 90 restart for Saipa. Thus, the company can easily cope with everything itself, that is, without the help of Renault, which has left the joint project – only suitable engines are missing. And the carmaker plans to solve this problem by contacting AVTOVAZ, as reported by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Islamic Republic.

The converted Renault Logan, returning from the conveyor after modernization, was able to purchase VAZ 1.6-liter units with 90 and 106 hp. Of. or a 1.8-litre engine with 122 hp, which bears the title of the most problematic in the Togliatti range. But no: As Saipa representatives said at the Moscow MIMS-2022 exhibition, the company has its own engine factory, which more than covers the automaker’s needs.

Recall that the production of Renault Logan of the first generation began in 2007 in Iran. And when the US tightened sanctions a few years ago and Renault left the project, Saipa had to ‘freeze’ the release of the Tondar 90.

If the Iranians solve all the problems in the near future and still bring the sedan back to the assembly line, then it can also come to Russia. Indeed, after many niches were abandoned due to the departure of foreign manufacturers, the Persians began to show special interest in our market. Although, they are more likely to start with the Shahin budget sedan presented at MIMS-2022.
