I have not yet met a person who would call Haval Dargo beautiful. Unusual – yes, but beautiful – no. Of course, the angular shapes of the brick, which is hewn with a file, attract attention. From the bow, the Dargo resembles the Gelik and the latest generation Land Rover Defender appears to be trailing behind. Oh, what good “Def” and “Mers”! If it wasn’t 2022 in our yard, I wouldn’t even look at the “Chinese.” And now it will. By the way, if you look around the body, you can find similarities with other cars. Asians are in their element here: don’t give them bread to copy other people’s finds. And Dargo is no exception.

But in general, the manufacturer rather gambled with the appearance: the car stands out in the stream. But when maneuvering on such an angular crossover, I remember UAZ models. Probably because the Dargo has wide rear pillars that obscure the view. Yes, and the windshield seems narrow at first, but then you get used to it.

The interior is an application for creativity. Salon – a real champion in the number of different handles and handrails. What immediately stands out is the huge “holder” on the front panel next to the passenger. I don’t dare to judge how strong and safe it is at the time of the accident, but it looks beautiful, and even off-road you can safely grab onto it.

Placing a bottle of water is no problem. Fits any door card size thanks to the stretched straps. Cup holders on the central tunnel are also useful. And in front of them is a wireless charger for a smartphone. In general, there are a large number of different niches and shelves. Usually this is what sets the French apart, but it seems that the Chinese are starting to catch up.

I look at the back row. The floor here is flat, without a large tunnel, but the car has four-wheel drive. The rear seat is moderately tight and there is ample space all around. This is due to the shape of the body. In general, the seat is quite roomy, as the legs do not rest against the back of the front seat. Overall, there are no complaints here.

Enough talk, it’s time to get behind the wheel. I fasten my seat belt, start the engine, and turn the transmission selector ring to the “D” position. No, the puck is not fixed, so it jumps to “manual” mode. During the test I never got used to it. I had to switch back to “Drive” every time, which is inconvenient.

When maneuvering in the parking lot, beautiful graphics come on in the central display. It makes it possible to see what is around the car, which makes maneuvering much easier. But I like this solution: with such a parking sensor, even a blonde will “squeeze” a rather large car on an empty seat.

I take off on the road and then a two-liter engine with a capacity of 192 forces combined with a 7-speed “robot” Dargo reveals from the best side. The crossover is lively on acceleration. But I got used to the brakes longer than usual. The delay seems understandable, but when approaching the stern of the vehicle in front you have the feeling that the last meter is not enough. So it took some getting used to.

As for the steering, it is felt that the Dargo is not a passenger car. The settings are similar to those of large seven-seat SUVs. So the “Chinese” is somewhat imposing and you don’t want to rush into it. But the suspension left a pleasant impression. She simply does not notice minor defects in the asphalt pavement. Yes, and in a rut, the car behaves calmly and does not strive to wag its tail.

On a broken road “hodovka” allows you to drive quickly and at the same time comfortably. But if there are more holes, then the speed should be reduced, because a vertical build-up is felt. So fasten the bottom to the ground or stone for a short time.

What is the result? The car left more positive impressions, but Dargo has many shortcomings. There is only one power source, and for a car that the Chinese predict a great future, that is not good. Here is another “diesel”, but these are dreams. I don’t understand the smell of a new car in the cabin. He’s annoying. Europeans have no such problems, but at least open the doors here and ventilate. Well, to the strengths I will attribute a rich equipment and a perfectly adjusted suspension. It is as if an elastic rubber ball makes the crossover literally float above the asphalt.

If we talk about prices, they start from 3,199,000 rubles. And that’s for the monodrive version, which is outrageously expensive. Therefore, the contents of a broken piggy bank can better be spent on a used car. Within 3,500,000 rubles on the “secondary” there are many worthy options. And if you like bricks, you can even buy the legendary Gelendvagen.
