Dmitry Kostromin, AVTOVAZ’s vice president of sales and marketing, told the analytics firm Avtostat that residents of Togliatti are not yet able to “resuscitate” the production of XRAY.
— The production of LADA XRAY until the end of the year is not yet planned, as there is a high dependence on foreign components. Therefore, the engineering and procurement teams are now focused on those models that have a higher priority for the company,” explains Kostromin.
The top manager added that the future of the pseudo-crossover, as well as the Renault models that the plant in Russia could assemble under agreements with the French automaker, will be discussed in the board of directors.
Recall that earlier there were rumors that the XRAY project would be closed sooner or later. This was related to the departure of Renault from the Russian market. But it was the French who supplied conveyor belts with spare parts and components for the production of cars on the B0 platform. By the way, Largus is based on the same “trolley”, but this one sells much better, so Togliatti decided to focus on it.
As for XRAY, this project was supposed to be completely closed by 2025. By this time, the factory had to master the production of models on a more modern CMF-B architecture. But these plans have been adjusted due to the crisis.
