The Russian car market collapsed 62.4% in August: prices break records and there are no queues at dealers. Meanwhile, cars are somehow bought, although they are not sold much. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out what kind of cars our compatriots bought in the period from January to August.

The bestseller was the unsinkable LADA Granta, which dropped some of the useful options, and with it the price. According to the eight-month results, the cheapest car on the market won the hearts of 41,508 people. This is more than twice less than AVTOVAZ was able to sell a year earlier.

Second place was taken by LADA Vesta, who was chosen by 25,415 Russians. Too bad, but the latest version of the car with LEDs, smart multimedia and a retouched interior is not yet on the assembly line. Only a select few managed to get hold of a piece of cars. However, the head of the Volga giant, Maxim Sokolov, promised to put the novelty into production, replacing scarce components with domestic ones and those manufactured in the enterprises of friendly countries.

And the Korean Kia Rio closes the top three – the car was chosen by more than 23,250 buyers. In comparison, last year, between January and August, Rio sold 56,585 units. Well, it could be worse…

The fourth position was put out by another “Korean” – Hyundai Solaris. This passenger car was purchased by 17,420 of our compatriots. Last year, in the same period, 25,000 more cars were sold – the factory was working, prices were lower. I wonder what will happen now?

Meanwhile, the TOP-5 is again crowned by the Russian LADA Niva with a figure of 16,538 cars sold. By the way, VAZ restarted the production of the model, both in options and in price. And to mourn or rejoice over this – it’s up to you.

Next comes the Korean crossover Hyundai Creta, 15,527 Russians cast their votes. Last year there were 34,000 more such people. But not only the crisis could play a cruel joke on the model. In his new role, “SUV”, as they say, did not go to everyone. The exterior design proved highly controversial, although the equipment of the Crete came out incredibly enriched.

The seventh line of the “hit parade” was taken by the French crossover Renault Duster – 11,135 buyers voted for it with a ruble. That’s just the Renault brand, we remember, fleeing Russia, leaving both customers and dealers at the mercy of fate. The latter, by the way, began to refocus on other brands, and some closed altogether. Let’s hope consumers won’t have any problems with the service.

The eighth most popular among our customers for the eight months of 2022 was the domestic LADA Largus, which sold out for just over 10,300 units. Its production is still on hiatus, although it will resume soon. But the Volkswagen Polo, which was bought by 9,517 people, doesn’t seem to make it onto the Russian conveyor belt anymore. According to rumors, the Germans will completely sell the factory in Kaluga.

But there is a Haval Jolion crossover, located near Tula and clearly not planning to leave. This is probably why 8,267 Russians gave their choice to him. According to the results of eight months of 2022, he took the last place in the TOP-10 best-selling cars in the Russian market. Admittedly, this is a breakthrough for China!

As you can see, once popular models such as the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage, which have been in the top ten for a long time, are no longer in it. Well, let’s not forget…
