The fact that the assembly line of the recently closed Toyota plant near St. Petersburg can be transferred to Kazakhstan, said the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic, Kairbek Uskenbaev. If this really happens, the Japanese could restore production and start selling their bestsellers in Kazakhstan. True, these cars, most likely, will not come to Russia.

It was announced in September that Toyota plans to close the Russian factory, which has been shut down since the beginning of spring due to a supply chain disruption. The Japanese produced the popular Toyota RAV4 crossovers and Camry sedans at this location. By the way, they are also popular in Kazakhstan. Apparently, this is also why the Asians started negotiating with the authorities of a neighboring country about relocation.

According to media reports, Kairbek Uskenbaev said that technical issues are now being discussed: investments, the competences of the parties, an analysis of sales markets is being carried out. The official also notes that the authorities of both countries are not involved in the negotiations. They are performed only at the level of businessmen. At the same time, it is too early to say that the plant will definitely move to Kazakhstan. As well as the fact that cars produced in a neighboring country can be imported into the Russian Federation, as Kazakhstan transferred trade with Russia under US sanctions.
