Door on a shovel: why Russia doesn’t need a Russian Nissan factory

The Japanese Nissan gave us its factory, engineering center and office in Moscow for 1 euro and left Russia. It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Industry and Trade called the deal “nationalization”. Since the runaways were ordered not to rush, but to applaud, the outcome must necessarily be accompanied by spells about a brighter future.

I wonder which one? The factory is shut down. It can only be produced by Nissan and only from original components with Japanese technology under the supervision of the Japanese. NAMI doesn’t know how to make cars and can’t. Therefore, in the footsteps of Nissan, a legend was urgently created that one of these days the Chinese FAW will take the place of the Japanese. The news was conceived with reference to KamAZ. But in Naberezhnye Chelny, they muttered evasively that ‘these could be Chinese partners’, but he does not know what stage the negotiations are at. That means only the intention to talk to someone about the fate of the plant, and not about the fact of cooperation. But it is gratifying that FAW has at least heard from the newspapers about its factory in Russia.

Since FAW ruined the legend too quickly, the next one was urgently invented – the conservation of equipment began in an abandoned factory in St. Petersburg. Awaiting the arrival of FAW tomorrow? It does not happen that a partner suddenly on the doorstep is confronted with hastily closed workshops and hastily de-energized equipment. The partner is therefore not expected.

As well as preserving the plant. This is a very expensive and lengthy occupation, which few people have been able to do. Since the United States has taken Chinese employees seriously to help evade sanctions, claims of partnership with the FAW seem the least credible. Therefore, the only confirmed fact remains unchanged: Nissan left Russia.
