Despite the fact that almost all car manufacturers are now struggling (shortage of microchips due to the coronavirus, a military special operation in Ukraine), life goes on and work does not stand still. BMW therefore continues to work with man and power on its super technologies. One of them – the one who notifies the owner of new damage to the body – they now patent.
The new unique technology is in fact the thinnest film that conducts current – it covers the car body. If a scratch, chip or other damage occurs somewhere, the system will immediately recognize this. And then events can develop according to one of several scenarios, depending on the parameters set by the owner.
So if the body “damages” while driving, the car can inform the driver about this by means of light or sound signals. And if the car is damaged in the parking lot, then the notification will “arrive” on the smartphone. In the latter case, a command is given to start the DVR remotely, which records what is happening around the car.
When the new technology will be applied to serial machines is still difficult to say, as the patent application is still pending. How it will be offered to users – in the package of basic options on expensive models or as extra equipment – is also unclear. It is possible that it will be completely “packaged” in a subscription – as has happened with heated seats, traffic sign recognition, adaptive “cruise” and a few other systems.
