A new type of pedestrian crossing appeared in Moscow

The Moscow Ministry of Transport talked about its latest effort to make pedestrians more visible when crossing the street. The AvtoVzglyad portal studied the new equipment.

Metropolitan Deptrans announced the installation of experimental LED lighting for a pedestrian crossing. A bold innovation took place on an unregulated “zebra” on the understudy of Tallinskaya Street. They mounted a cylinder the size of a person on either side of the roadway. Each of them is equipped with a set of lamps that illuminate the markings on the sidewalk and people crossing the road. They turn on automatically at the same time as the rest of the streetlights. Deptrans claims that in this way it increased pedestrian safety in anticipation of the long winter nights.

Note that about 50 meters from the freshly lit crosswalk there is another “zebra”, which is used by an order of magnitude more people. For the reason that it is right on the path between the entrance to the popular shopping center with the locals and the tram stop. But instead of highlighting this – much busier – spot, some time ago figures from Deptrans installed a traffic police camera there, which was set up to fine motorists for not letting pedestrians pass. We believe that the situation described more than clearly illustrates the priorities of the capital Deptrans.
