The Belarusian government has signed a decree introducing a new price regulation system, including for imported products. The local council of ministers effectively banned sellers from inflating the cost of goods, including cars, which again proved to be a much better buy than in Russia.

State bodies of Belarus were given additional powers to monitor compliance with the pricing legislation. The increase in sales prices in the country must henceforth be coordinated with the authorities. It is true that the reason for refusing to raise prices for consumer goods will in most cases be “insufficient economic justification of the proposed price”.

Decree No. 713 defines 370 commodities for which maximum surcharges are set. If we’re not talking about foods, there are just over 220 items, including building materials, electrical engineering, and actually cars. The amount of allowances approved by the authorities varies from 15 to 55%.

Entrepreneurs, including new car salesmen, are faced with a problem: how can they not bury their business over the inability to raise prices and become culprits in criminal cases if the law is ignored? However, Belarusian dealers will be helped in part by the Russians, who are almost ready to buy cars in bulk at a lower cost. Cars on the Russian market will currently cost about 25% more than those of our neighboring allies.

As an example, let’s take the domestic LADA Vesta, which Belarusian dealers offer in terms of the reinforced rubles for 1,200,000, which is almost 150,000 cheaper than in Russia. And then, when we talk about suggested retail prices. In fact, the prices of our dealers are much higher. With the taste of money and complete impunity, against the background of excitement and shortages, retailers are selling Vesta at prices close to the mark of 2,000,000 rubles. And in some cases – even more expensive.

Therefore, go to the neighbors for a passenger car, which will turn out to be almost a million cheaper – just for the joy. Admittedly, no one gives you a guarantee for a newly purchased car. The same AVTOVAZ officially stated that “it cannot confirm the warranty on the territory of Russia, and if the cars were officially delivered to the importer in Belarus, then the warranty for them is valid only on the territory of Belarus.”

On the other hand, for the most part, LADA’s owners have not bothered with maintenance at official dealers and with the warranty obligations of the parties. In the mind of a Russian, something like this: why would anyone pay many times more when you can fix your “swallow” in a garage with Uncle Vasya using a “little white” and red words spiced with non-standard .

In order to boost sales, AVTOVAZ is likely to activate regular discounts and new loyalty programs in Russia soon. But even without it, the inhabitants of Volga offer tasty conditions for the purchase of cars through state aid, luring them to maintenance with promotions that include free diagnosis and oil change. It seems that this is not the limit yet – if Belarusian dealers turn into dumping competitors for the local Lada, the brand will react quite quickly. After all, here is not only “image is everything”, but also business.

Meanwhile, the situation is similar with foreign cars: from Geely assembled in Belarus to imported “premium”. However, the latter was also partially covered by the export ban from the country, but many models and brands are as far removed from the same category of “luxury” as the same Chinese from “Mercedes”.

Therefore, the crowds of our compatriots, who wanted to switch themselves much cheaper to brand-new cars of foreign manufacture, will not without pleasure squeeze all the juice from the local market. Here is just a guarantee, again, for cars purchased in fraternal Belarus, Russian brand representations are unlikely to provide.

However, we have almost no representative offices anymore – Western brands are leaving the market one by one, leaving both dealers and customers with a nose. This means that a Russian who is used to surviving alone will in fact lose nothing. But you can buy…
