Why it’s Dangerous to Buy a Three-Year-Old Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Mercedes-Benz cars have always been associated with luxury and wealth. At the same time, the E-class stood apart. A large sedan was chosen for comfort, rich equipment for the presence of many electronic assistants. However, this applies to a new car and a used one is no longer as attractive and can ruin the owner. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells about the weaknesses of three-year-old Eshka.

The Mercedes-Benz E-class in the back of the W213 appeared in 2016 and underwent restyling in 2021. That is, the model is fresh, but already falls into the category of used not too old cars. The choice of versions is large, because “Merci” can be both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. And the sedan has a wide range of engines.

If you opt for a car in the basic version, the biggest danger is that you can buy a copy that worked in a taxi. Due to the fact that the interior is quite “strong”, it can be difficult to understand. And after buying a car, it begins to “get” various problems.

For example, owners complain that even with light sliding into the snow, a whole “garland” of errors appears on the dashboard. To remove the “lighting”, you need to go to the service. The buttons on the steering wheel also fail. Touch first, then normal. The cost of a new block of buttons can now reach 30,000 rubles, plus replacement work.

And over time, the front panel begins to rattle. Moreover, this is a huge problem. Many owners disassemble the plastic themselves and lubricate it with anti-cracking. “Kolkhoz”, of course, but the method is proven.

Another problem that just can’t be addressed. The oil pump valve wiring has frayed over the years because it was poorly routed. As a result, the valve stops working. It will be very lucky if it stays open. But if it is closed, you can get an oil shortage of the engine with all the consequences that entails.

The next headache is the rapid wear of the rear brake pads. They are replaced every 20,000 – 30,000 km. Such a modest life of consumables for rear-wheel drive sedans is considered normal due to the fact that the ESP system is actively working. Especially on slippery roads. The replacement process itself is also not that simple. The pads must be “registered” in the driver. If at the same time the buttons on the steering wheel do not work (we wrote about this above), then this is not possible! Needless to say, the repair costs roll on in this case.

As for the 2-liter gasoline engine with the M274 index, it does not suffer from stretching the timing chain, but requires branded consumables and professional service. That is why it is recommended to visit every 8,000 km for maintenance. And with a used one, you must immediately update the oil in the gearbox and gearboxes. So even if the car is not upset by serious breakdowns, the cost of maintaining a premium sedan can spoil.
