“Merin” in Russian: what problems await the owners of Mercedes-Benz after the brand leaves the Russian Federation?
Do not go to a fortune teller – the decision to leave the Russian market was not an easy one for Mercedes. However, it will be much worse for owners of premium German foreign cars, who, with a three-pointed star on the hood, face a whole host of problems and problems related to the maintenance and operation of their favorite cars.

The Mercedes-Benz company, including its own plant in Esipovo near Moscow, was sold to Russia’s largest dealer Avtodom in less than three minutes. The amount and terms of the deal are shrouded in mystery. However, if the shopkeeper got all the cream, even for 1 ruble, then consumers will not be hot or cold. Although, wait. On the contrary, it is still cold. Although Avtodom promised not to give up plans to organize Mercedes’ industrial assembly in Russia, it could not guarantee that it would continue the work begun by the Germans.

In addition, the dealer has already started looking for a technology partner to use the fabric-covered conveyor belts. And this may also mean that the site is simply transferred to the use of an external organization, which near Solnechnogorsk will by no means begin to sound like Mercedes. Which in particular was mentioned some time ago by the governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, who alluded to the launch of inactive capabilities, but already under the Chinese flag. In fact, such a scenario is the most obvious. But even if the factory continues to produce the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, it will not please consumers.

Doing business in Russian traditionally entails the lowest cost to get maximum profit, and with all available and few methods. For example, the company’s new owners can’t do anything to switch suppliers, reducing the cost of both logistics and manufactured parts. What’s up: spare parts can even be replaced with something similar, and not with the “original”, but with their analogue. China will only be happy to help such an optimization.

Moreover, the effects of the sanctions, spiced up with shortages of a number of key automotive components, from the infamous electronic chips to anti-lock braking systems, have not gone away. Where they are taken for the production of the German premium – nobody knows. Let’s say more: the Germans have banned the supply to Russia even of keys for unlocking cars and activating the ignition system of the engine. Moreover, this happened even during the “live” representation of the brand in our market. There are no guarantees that you will be able to get a new smart key if it is lost, alas, no!

But what can I say, if you don’t see more guarantees for the car itself, like Europe – gas. No, Avtodom representatives, of course, announced their intention to take the maximum possible measures to maintain the service and after-sales service. But whether they will, and whether they will, is a big question. In addition, the owners of “Mercedes” in Russia have no one else to complain to. The official representative office is sent to the dustbin of history and the brand headquarters in Germany has not previously taken responsibility for the cars sold, let alone those produced on the Russian market.

As a result, it appears that buying and owning Mercedes-Benz in our country is becoming a lottery. If you’re lucky, the car will serve its owner faithfully for a long time, and if you’re not lucky, the owner becomes a slave to his iron, loads himself up searching and waiting for spare parts, overpaying at exorbitant prices. And given the trend to increasingly create a single-use automotive industry, which has been particularly pervasive to Mercedes-Benz after 2010, the “lucky” option can be considered unlikely.
