Parallel imports brought ex-taxis with monstrous miles to Russia
The sharp depreciation of the euro against the ruble and the activation of the forgotten “drive from Europe” scheme delivered an incredible amount of used cars from the Old World to Russia in six months. However, among them, it turned out, many “black sheep” come across. How not to fall for the trick of scammers when ordering a car from western countries, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Oddly enough, most of the cars imported from Europe yesterday and today are by no means “state employees”. The price reduction has allowed many Russians to think about a real premium – Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz – which will cost in the “secondary market” the same as in Kia car dealerships with Hyundai. So why choke on “Koreans” when you can get a real “European” for the same amount – say, with a star on the hood? The desire to grow in the eyes of the public is so great that many begin to seriously consider options. And it is extremely difficult to resist offers in the style of “Diesel E-class from Europe at the price of a new Solaris”.

But free cheese only happens in a mousetrap and miracles don’t happen at all. Stories about rich Europeans who change cars every three years had nothing to do with reality yesterday, and today they have completely turned into an outright lie. Therefore, a three-five-year-old car with a mileage of less than 100,000 km is a piece and rare, and thus an expensive product. More experienced in buying cars in Europe, Belarusians say that a fair figure on the odometer for such cars is at least a hundred or even two. In reality, however, things are much worse.

Buying a car in Europe is only beneficial if the VAT is refunded – 20% of the price for Germany – so you only need to buy a car from a legal person. Which? The best option is at the taxi depot. After all, the “nice” price is also influenced by the fact that the “taxi drivers” cannot serve the “junk” according to the contract, and therefore throw away fresh cars for the year, but “well-worn” cars at a significant discount.

In addition, an incredible number of those same Mercedes-Benz E-Classes that are so popular with buyers from Russia serve for “parallel imports” in taxis. So the probability of buying “Eshka” from under the taxi driver is extremely high. The car looks great from the outside, clean inside, even the steering wheel is re-sewn and the pedals with the automatic transmission lever are replaced to sell at a higher price. Turning the mileage is no problem at all. However, there is a surefire way to distinguish a “taxi” car from a private car.

Firstly, cars aimed at German parks are made with a unique option: on the back seat it is possible to extend the so-called “booster”, which allows the child to sit higher and use the seat belt correctly. This is not the case for civilian vehicles. But the main indicator is the braid of wires coming out of the battery. It should have a red tag that reads in black and red “taxi.mercedes-benz.com”. So if you see such an inscription, do not hesitate: in front of you is a car of a German taxi fleet.
