The Russian car market is now undergoing an unprecedented transformation. Perhaps this was not the case in any other country in the world. Car prices are rising, but
Since the beginning of 2022, 160 car dealerships have closed in Russia, the National Automobile Union (NAS) reports. This is mainly due to the departure of foreign car companies. However, new players, banks, are also entering the market. For example, Tinkoff launched a service for the sale of Tinkoff Auto cars – Chinese Havals are sold on the platform in Krasnodar, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don and Mineralnye Vody.
The Tinkoff project was made possible thanks to the Fresh Auto dealer. The sales scheme is quite simple: the customer chooses a car on the website or in a mobile application, and after the transaction is confirmed, the dealer reserves the car at his home or in the Haval warehouse. Then “Tinkoff” brings the “iron horse” to the buyer, and the parties sign a purchase contract.
As for Sberbank, it introduced its own marketplace, Sberavto, in 2020. Now you can see both new and used cars there. There are no commissions for placing advertisements: the bank earns from the sale of financial and insurance products.
It is very likely that banks will take the lead role in the country’s car market next year. After all, because they have a lot of money, they can lend money to subcontractors to bring about parallel imports of cars. And they will be implemented exclusively on their online platforms.
In the future, credit institutions will become real car ecosystems. Thus, the buyer can immediately use all the services associated with the purchase of a car. For example, take a loan, insurance, get a cashback, sign up for maintenance.
As for the dealers, it won’t be easy for them. Those who are unwilling or unable to work with banks will be forced to close or focus on services, and this will seriously reduce merchants’ earnings.
