An inexperienced or crooked driver on the road, from the point of view of others, fully deserves the insulting title “teapot”. However, few of those who freely deal

There are several versions explaining the origin of the term “teapot”. It is not possible to confirm the reliability of each of them, since all of them are the subject of folk art of the USSR era.
The most plausible (though somewhat “far-fetched”) is the following version. In Soviet times, driver’s licenses were divided into “professional” and “amateur”. For example, to work in a passenger taxi, it was necessary to have a professional VU. But this did not stop the “amateurs” in their personal cars from doing private transportation. Professional taxi drivers disparagingly called such “private drivers” and saw them not only as competitors, but also incompetent emergency workers. Over time, the term “private trader” was transformed into “teapot” and acquired its current meaning.
Another version of the origin of the “teapot” probably came from the tourist environment of the Soviet period. Then many people were fond of all kinds of trips. The “professionals” of this company distinguished an inexperienced tourist by a teapot tied to a backpack.
Seasoned “hikers” never took this clumsy utensil with them on a trip. It was inconvenient to transport it, firstly, because of its characteristic shape and volume, and secondly, because the teapot is an extremely easily soiled thing during a walk. After all, it is constantly and abundantly covered with soot during heating on fire. Therefore, an inexperienced tourist, stomping with a smoky teapot dangling behind a backpack, began to be called a “teapot”. Gradually, this term began to be applied to any inept person, or a person who began his activity in a particular field, including drivers.
There is also a “mountain skiing and rock climbing” version of the origin of the term. More or less experienced climbers and skiers laughed at the way beginners (who had conquered the mountain for the first time/successfully skied down the slope) were photographed in memory in a characteristic pose: one hand rested on the side and the other was raised in a welcoming gesture. The human silhouette at the same time resembles a teapot with a round handle and a long spout. Over time, “dummies” migrated from climber/skier jargon into common usage.
