How the Chinese JAC JS4 will turn into the Russian “Moskvich”
A new record has been set: in just six months, a car factory with very real development prospects was launched in the capital. Will another Russian automaker appear in the country? Why “Moskvitch 3” is certified only for one year. Portal “AutoVzglyad” found out all the details.

Yesterday, the conveyor of the Moscow car factory “Moskvich” began to work again. In almost six months, the company’s conveyor passed the modernization stage for the production of Chinese cars. And in principle, one should not look for reasons for optimism here. After all, SKD is not something unusual, and even more so it does not bring much profit. This means that in an effort to remain profitable, the manufacturer inevitably wants to raise the price of the final product. However, in the case of Moskvich, everything looks a little different.

Yes, in the first phase, which should last a year, the factory will assemble the Chinese JAC JS4 in two versions. The first – “Moskvich 3” – will be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 150 horsepower. Of. with a torque of 210 Nm. The engine is aggregated with a 6-speed “mechanics” or with a variator.

By the way, SKD implies that assembled bodies will be delivered to the assembly line, in which Moscow specialists will install engines, transmission, suspension, exhaust system and other “little things” that are not painted in body color. The second version of the car is Moskvich 3e. As the name suggests, this is an electric version of the JAC JS4, equipped with a 50 kW electric motor and a battery pack that provides a range of 410 km. True, the factory workers have not yet shown this version, focusing on debugging the conveyor belt for the production of gasoline.

It is curious that almost all the equipment that remained from Renault was disassembled. But robot carts, which are now involved in the production of Moskvich, did not retire. By the end of this year, the aim is to produce 600 cars, of which 200 will still be electric. But the most interesting is different. Many experts have a question, why are both “Moskvich” certified only for one year? Yes, and on the initiative of KamAZ?

According to Alexander Migal, director of marketing and sales of passenger cars at KamAZ PJSC, the Chelny plant, as a technology partner of the project, now has high potential and expertise in launching new production facilities, enabling it to effectively organize the process of setting up and setting up a new production facility. Including training specialists. And in 2023 (in the first phase) 50,000 cars will be assembled, 10,000 of which will be electric.

We are, of course, talking about creating (or rather, recreating) a Renault dealership network. In addition, which is especially important according to Alexander Migal, all dealers will be guaranteed to be supplied with the required number of spare parts. That will allow future buyers of “Moskvich” not to fall out of their usual schedule of interaction with the seller and comfortable car ownership. Given the production volumes of the first year and the availability of Chinese components, this is in principle quite possible. Parallel to this, the conveyor belt will be converted to small-scale assembly with localization of components in the course of 2023. And of course with the retraining of staff with the help of KamAZ, which has the necessary expertise in this area.

Alexander Migal also clarified that from 2024, after the expiration of the OTTS on the Moskvich-JAC JS4, a new car will be certified, which should be more Russian than Chinese. And in 2024, the output must increase to 100,000 units (20,000 of which are electric). And in 2025 the capacity will increase to 120,000 (of which 25,000 electric). In addition, research has already started to create its own platform. And by the end of 2025, we should see an all-Russian car.

According to auto expert Igor Morzharetto, the launch of the Moskvich plant will ease the shortage of vehicles in the Mother See, as the capital’s taxi fleet alone needs up to 40,000 new cars a year. In addition, the resumption of production saves a large number of jobs in new and high-tech production.

The AvtoVzglyad portal, in turn, notes that with the launch of Moskvich, a systematic and, above all, logical construction of an independent car brand is actually taking place. And this is quite possible in the case of interest from the state. Which eventually led to the problem. We will closely monitor developments.
