Car history is always interesting. Especially when it comes to great race cars. And it is all the more curious to know how cars such as the Jaguar D-Type came about. Portal “AutoVzglyad” found out the details.

On the site of the English auction house Historic Auctioneers, the wooden frame of the Jaguar D-Type, with which the body elements of the legendary car were made, is for sale. Created by genius designer Malcolm Sawyer to dominate Le Mans races. And in the period from 1955 to 1957, the car performed really triumphantly, and in 1957 cars of this model took all the awards, as well as fourth and sixth place on the podium.

A specific feature of the production of the D-Type was that the workers placed sheets of aluminum on a special wooden frame, which were then carefully tapped with hammers to give them the desired shape. By the way, to achieve the correct aerodynamic properties, the prototype of the car was covered with pieces of woolen yarn. And in those places of the body where the airflow lifted them on the way, changes were made to the wooden body template.

Now they are asking £70,000 to £90,000 for it. By the way, according to the AvtoVzglyad portal, in 2016 the body of the racing D-Type No. XKD501, which became the winner of Le Mans in 1956, was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction for $ 21,780,000.
