As an example, let’s cite a specific case when one of the editors of the AvtoVzglyad portal quickly repaired a damaged windshield wiper himself, and at minimal cost.
Coincidentally, the handle of the rear wiper broke on our colleague’s “old” Korean “SUV”. From the point of view of any car mechanic, such a breakdown of a node clearly implies its complete replacement. And the replacement prices are the same! For a new part, if, of course, it is available, you will have to pay from 3 to 5 thousand rubles. For a used one you will have to pay about 2 thousand rubles. Then the owner of the car remembered his garage skills from years past and decided to restore the wiper arm himself. The plan to “combine” the broken parts of the part is already mature in my head. It was decided to drill holes in them and then fix them with two rigid connecting bridges – one on the inside, the other on the outside.
As a result, after searching the “bottlenecks” of the garage for a screed from the outside, a colleague managed to pick up a lugged ridge of furniture fasteners. It perfectly matched the broken handle in terms of size and strength parameters. Extra strength to the outer connection was provided by two M4 bolts with nuts.
It turned out to be a bit more difficult to make an internal bond for the fragments of the handle, but this job was also successfully solved in the end. A fast-curing repair agent was used for this, colloquially referred to as high-speed steel or polymer welds. As such, they used the Ruseff brand universal cold welding, which was bought on the occasion for 180 rubles, lying in the trunk of the “Korean”. This product has already been tested more than once by the experts of the AvtoVzglyad portal and has proven itself well in practice.
The special feature of the tool is that you can quickly repair many parts of the car, including those made of different metals or plastics. In the initial state, the composition resembles plasticine, which after thorough kneading turns into a material that quickly hardens in air. But although Ruseff’s cold welding is gentle, you can literally form the desired fragment of the part from it with your fingers. Which, as you can see in the photo, has been successfully implemented. At the same time, the strength of the resulting internal screed turned out to be almost comparable to that of metal.
For example, our colleague managed to give the rear “concierge” a second life in just a few hours. And now he is back in place and qualitatively cleans the glass from dirt, water and condensate.
The main thing, as we can see, the repair costs turned out to be more than miserable – an order of magnitude lower than those originally offered by the masters and managers in the car service. So pay attention to our experience: it is possible that in a difficult situation when repairing a car it will be useful to someone else.
