The traffic police were without new patrol cars

The plans of the Ministry of the Interior to purchase 2800 cars for the traffic police in 2022 will not come true. This became known from the report on the activities of the management of the “Traffic Safety” project. As an explanation for what happened, the document refers to “the risks that have arisen in the context of external sanctions pressures associated with the implementation of sanctions by unfriendly countries and the temporary refusal of suppliers to supply and participate in competition procedures.”

This made it impossible to purchase patrol cars for the traffic police in 2022. It is known that the budget allocated 4.5 billion rubles for the purchase of the above 2,800 tons per day. But it didn’t work. In this regard, the directorate proposes to “wait for amendments to the passport of the federal project regarding the purchase of patrol cars, the deadline is 11/30/2022”.

Translated from the bureaucratic, this means that from the very beginning very specific technical requirements for future traffic police cars were prescribed in the public procurement project. And they, as always in such cases, are written for specific models. So, in 2019 and 2020, Skoda Octavia and UAZ Patriot were ideally suited to the terms of similar tenders. And in 2021 – Hyundai Solaris and LADA Vesta. And in 2022, it was originally planned to purchase a very specific model.

But for known reasons, in the spring all Russian suppliers of foreign cars “blown out” or raised prices. Yes, and AVTOVAZ increased prices, at the same time sharply reducing production volumes – due to a lack of components. As a result, the traffic police do not get patrol cars of the models they need at last year’s prices. And the police will have to “wear out” the foreign cars at their disposal, waiting for the government to rewrite the buyback program to meet the new reality. But now it is not even clear when in principle this event can occur.
