A plastic bag tied around the rear-view mirror means that the car is not running, needs repair, but has not been left behind. There are also many cars on America’s roads that for one reason or another turn out to be unnecessary for their owners. Such cars are evacuated, looted and sometimes even burned – however, as elsewhere. And there really are enough, because life in the United States is richer than in our latitudes.
By law, such cars must be transported to special parking lots, where they will live out their lives if the owner does not show up. “Transfer” and storage cost money, and the bill, of course, is billed to the owner, not the state. And since the courier company is private, it is beneficial for him to make as many “flights” as possible so that the car cannot lie on the side of the road – it will “sweep” everything on its territory.
To avoid unnecessary costs and accidental evacuation, Americans who encounter problems on the road and are forced to leave the car wrap the rearview mirror with the most ordinary plastic bag. Like, don’t pick it up, I’ll be back soon and I’ll clean it myself. This is unlikely to save you, like our emergency gang, from fines for parking incorrectly. But with such a “flag”, of course, it comes out cheaper, because at least you do not have to buy a “swallow” in a special parking lot.
