Why you should not buy a used Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen Tiguan is the first compact crossover in the model line of the German concern. There are a lot of such machines in Russia, because they were assembled at a plant in Kaluga: first according to the SKD method, and since 2010 – according to the full cycle. But “a lot”, as you know, does not mean “good”. And therefore, those who look at a “second-hand” SUV should be extremely careful: a “European” can cause a lot of trouble. Which one, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Volkswagen Tiguan is especially appreciated for a wide range of powertrains, the ability to choose the type of drive, as well as an ergonomic, pleasant interior in all respects. But of course the “German” also has weaknesses. For example, a layer of paint that can peel off around flakes on the body. Or the bottom of the fifth door, where rust often appears – most often it is visible on the welds.

Plastic pads that loosen over time smear the paint down to the metal, and chrome dulls and peels off – keep this in mind when examining a “used” car. Pay attention to the rear license plate lights: due to corrosion of the wiring, they must not burn out.

A fairly common 1.4-liter petrol engine of the EA111 series can drive 250,000 km without overhaul. But the chain often has to be replaced after 70,000 km – otherwise it will wear out and jump over the teeth of the drive sprockets. As a result, valves and pistons meet, followed by expensive repairs.

The unit of the same volume of the EA211 series is less “fragile”, since a belt is installed in the timing drive. However, in the pressure system, the shaft of the internal bypass valve can get stuck, and piston rings are also stuck due to the use of questionable oil. We also add that the fuel injectors of literally all Tiguan engines are sensitive to the quality of the fuel, so saving on it will not work.

The DQ200’s seven-speed, dual-clutch “robot” has a bad reputation. Jerks and jerks when switching gears – a common thing. They say that with careful handling, the box can withstand 120,000 kilometers. But the traffic jam regime of megacities, in which the Tiguans basically work, soon condemns the need to replace transmission parts.

The four-wheel drive system is generally reliable, but it also has some drawbacks. Thus, the fourth generation Haldex clutch can only work for a long time if you change the lubricant every 60,000 km – otherwise the electric booster pump will break. In addition, after 70,000 km, the outboard bearing of the cardan shaft must be “updated”.

And finally, let’s say a few words about the “run”. If we talk about the front suspension, then the rear silent blocks of the levers wear out quickly, and the stabilizer bushings need attention after 70,000 km.
