Big problem: there are fewer and fewer cars on winter tires in Russia

In Russia sales of winter and all-season tires fell by 14%. How this will affect our safety and what methods Russian motorists use to extend the life of old studded tires, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

This year winter came a little earlier than we are used to. And it seems that this should encourage motorists to more actively and earlier buy new winter tires for their “swallows”. However, at the start of the cold season, this market segment experienced a decline: sales fell by 14%, only 4,200,000 tires were purchased. In a way, this is due to the general decline of the car market, which fell by more than 60% compared to last year. But in peacetime, when buying a new car, the “winter” kit came as a pleasant addition to the deal. Now this is not. Naturally, the market for used tires has picked up again.

Although there is a risk that you will fall flatly below par. It should not be discounted that drivers have begun to actively save money by extending the life of old tires, diligently convincing themselves that they will “still work” and resorting to very exotic ways to extend their life. For example, on a well-known Internet flea market, demand began to arise for sets of studs for self-assembly in a tire to replace those that had already left it.

However, the experts of the AvtoVzglyad portal still recommend not to experiment with your own safety and, in spite of everything, find the means and opportunities to purchase new winter tires. Especially if the wear limit of the current tread has exceeded 3-4 mm. And be careful on the road, because of the 50 million registered passenger cars in Russia, only 1 million received new winter tires this year.
