Not only is the locomotive of Kaliningrad’s economy, the Avtotor company, going to produce an insane amount of electric passenger trains, but the regional authorities are also going to switch normal cars to electric traction. Plans for such “remotorization” of used cars, it turned out, are being seriously discussed in the local government.
– We in Kaliningrad will certainly try to experiment with this. Due to geography and history, we have quite a bit of the old European fleet. For example, if people were paid extra for handing in old cars in favor of environmentally friendly cars, then I think it would be interesting, – said the head of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov.
According to him, European neighbors are putting pressure on the region’s administration to make such decisions. Or rather, their plans to leave combustion engine cars behind by 2035. Knowing this, the authorities, together with Avtotor and Rosatom, which develops battery production, are taking measures that take into account European trends.
“For us, the green agenda has gone nowhere. We believe that the Kaliningrad region is very attractive, including due to the environmental friendliness of life. We not only want to maintain this image, but also take concrete steps to reduce environmental pollution even further,” quotes RIA Novosti Alikhanov.
