With the help of Sollers Argo and Atlant, which were presented on December 14, the manufacturer plans to capture at least 40% of the market, bypassing Gazelle, which has been a leader in the light commercial transport segment for 30 years. The main hope here is precisely on Atlant, since it is a direct competitor of the products of the GAZ Group.

Let’s note for a moment that the Chinese JAC Sunray is hiding under the Russian name, and not our own development. This made it possible to set up a screwdriver assembly in a short time. Next in line is full cycle production with plans to take localization to 70% and 100% in the future. By the way, the factory workers bought the intellectual property rights from partners so that they can upgrade the car themselves. So it gets four-wheel drive.

Outwardly, the van resembles the second-generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, but the resemblance is deceptive. The body panels here are their own and not Merc. By the way, the build quality is good. I didn’t notice any “styles”. The only thing that caught my eye was the large honeycombs of the decorative grille. Behind them you need to put a grille so that the stones do not bombard the radiator of the air conditioner.

Everything else is quite practical. The bumpers are unpainted, so don’t mind scratching them. On the sides – large moldings. They also protect the body from damage. The lamps are large and high, so they are protected against contact with branches or parking posts. And the spare wheel was placed under the bottom. A “dirty” decision, but completely normal for cars of this class.

I open the wide door and climb into the lounge. The design is quite simple. Plastic is hard and slippery everywhere, but this is a commercial vehicle, so it’s better not to fit here with “passenger” dimensions: it’s enough for work. The seat has mechanical adjustments and a comfortable armrest, and the six-speed “mechanics” “joystick” is within easy reach.

By the way, the factory workers plan to install a Russian gearbox in the future, so we will follow the updates of the model. But the steering column is not adjustable at all, which reduces comfort. If we are talking about two passenger seats, their backs recline, but at a very small angle.

The nature of the “keeper of the air”

Having set up the “seat” and electric mirrors for myself, I launch into the line the most powerful 2.7-liter diesel engine with 150 horsepower (there is also a 1.9-liter engine with a return of 139 forces). And this is where it gets really interesting. The top engine has urea injection, while the base engine has it without. Our drivers do not like the SCR system, because the solution is afraid of frost, it smells and you cannot buy it everywhere. From this we conclude that there will be a demand for the junior unit in the province.

From first gear, Atlant takes off quite smoothly and “rows” confidently through the fresh snow. In corners, I feel that the safety electronics work. Yet the car has rear-wheel drive and the road is slippery. There is enough torque to get going from second gear without any problems. The maximum torque of 335 Nm is already available from 1800 rpm.

The suspension is tight and works quite hard at times. This is understandable, because there is no cargo in the back. I’m sure if you load the van up to the eyeballs it will go softer. But what I liked was the work of the gearbox: the shifts are fast and precise. “Six-step” perfectly “made friends” with the motorcycle.

Issue price

If we talk about the “price”, then the base Atlant costs 2,904,000 rubles. The package includes power steering, cruise control, air conditioning, ABS, ESP and other equipment. The version with a gross weight of 4.2 tons costs 3,209,000 rubles. But dealers sell the all-metal Gazelle Next for 2,815,000 rubles. The Gazelle Business eurovan can generally be found for 2,050,000. So the fight against GAZ products will not be easy. Although there is now a shortage on the market, because all manufacturers who can offer cars at an affordable price are going to sit in the black.
