When global car manufacturers closed their operations in Russia and Chinese brands showed no desire to rush into the market, our entrepreneurs got to work. They began to import models into the country, which, in their opinion, citizens would literally snatch. So we got the BYD Qin Plus sedan with the “super hybrid” DM-I system. The AvtoVzglyad portal gave the car a heavy check. I even looked under the bottom.
The hybrid novelty turned out to be larger than the Prius known to us, and also much more beautiful. A large radiator grille, narrow LED optics and a rear brake light, which, as it were, cuts the stern into two parts. Looks great, especially at night.
On the trunk lid is the inscription – Build Your Dreams (BYD), that is, “Build your dreams.” And for some reason you really expect a miracle from this Chinese. Let’s see if he deserves attention.
INSIDE
I open the door and sit in the living room. The first impression is spacious and quite good. The plastic feels nice and the front seats look like sports buckets. This is a compromise solution as the headrest is not adjustable. But it looks interesting. In addition, there are electrical adjustments.
In the center of the front panel is a large touchscreen monitor that looks like an iPad. When you start the car, it starts to drive. Cool! You rarely see this. With a light touch of the touch key, the “gadget” is transferred from a horizontal to a vertical position.
The screen shows the climate control settings, as well as many different applications, such as navigator, music and weather forecast. The operating principle is the same as with any telephone. But in some bookmarks there are a lot of hieroglyphs – Russification would not hurt.
But the instrument panel is just small, and it’s very unusual. The screen shows information about battery charge, speedometer and other data needed on the road. But it’s hard to see everything.
I look back to appreciate the back seat. It has three adjustable headrests, there is an armrest with cup holders and the backrest profile has been verified. At the disposal of riders – ventilation deflectors and two USB connectors. In general, you can live. Those are just tall passengers who can rest their heads against the headliner.
GET UNDER THE SKIRT
Before starting the engine, I lift the sedan on a lift and inspect it from below. A large traction battery immediately catches the eye here. An exhaust system runs next to it. And everything would be fine, but the nodes are located quite low, so the sedan is only suitable for driving on city streets: it is dangerous to drive onto the dirt road – you can hook the battery to the ground . And the power cables are not covered by anything.
It would be nice to treat the body with anti-corrosion agent, because the factory coating is too weak. Yes, and protective mastic is applied in some places only to the welds.
The pendant is made according to the classic scheme. Front – MacPherson struts, and behind the designers used an elastic beam. The levers and knuckles are powerful and the brakes inspire confidence. The discs are completely covered with mudguards, so they don’t get gouged by stones and sandblasting. The front subframe is also well made.
As for the power unit, a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 110 forces works under the hood. It has a dual-flow turbocharger, direct fuel injection and a variable valve timing system.
The engine is usually not running, or is working to power the generator, which charges the traction battery. And the battery feeds the electric motor with an efficiency of 179 hp. Of. It is the most important for BYD Qin Plus. Another interesting solution: the electric motor and the variator were combined into a single unit – this allows the “gasoline” to be connected directly to the wheels in certain modes.
SAVE BUT DON’T FUCK
By pressing the “wake up” button, the power source and the car roll silently onto the road. The traction control has been checked and the suspension is well adjusted: the chassis evens out small asphalt bumps quite well. When passing the lying “policemen” one feels that the car is heavy. But this is understandable, nevertheless a battery is placed under the bottom.
Using only its energy, BYD Qin Plus can travel about 45-50 kilometers. These are the usual indicators for a hybrid. But if you activate the entire power plant, the sedan “walks” without recharging up to 1000 km. By the way, the declared fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 3.8 l/100 km. Of course, on the winter road it turned out a little more, but not critically. That is the main advantage of the car. Well, in a tank with a capacity of 48 liters you can fill the 92nd gasoline. And the battery charges from a wall outlet in just 10-15 minutes. Very fast and economical.
I would also like to note that the sedan has a well-thought-out parking assistant. An excellent image on a huge monitor, which is displayed by four cameras. You can’t even look in the side mirrors while manoeuvring.
DO NOT GO TO THE FORTUNE
Will the “Chinese” crush such a popular model as the Toyota Prius? Could be. Outwardly it is more interesting, the cabin has its own “chips”, and the car drives well. Protect the power cables and handle the bottom carefully at the factory. And at least something to create more ground clearance. Then you can really expect a miracle from BYD Qin Plus. In addition, the prices of the sedan are not so sky-high: dealers offer different versions of this model from 2,180,000 rubles.
