A tram of disappointment: newly arranged tracks in Moscow paralyze people and machines
The isolation of tram lines, which is being actively implemented in Moscow to improve the safety of our public transport, continues to disturb motorists. With the onset of winter, the curbs around the paths became almost invisible under the snow mass, which has repeatedly led to accidents. The AvtoVzglyad portal covered the details of the issue.

“This snowdrift is actually a curb,” the capital’s car owners recently wrote on social networks about the newfangled practice of curbing tram tracks. Among those affected by the changes are Dostoevskaya, Kalanchevskaya, Galushkina, Rostokinskaya, Vavilova, Serpukhov Val, Ordzhonikidze, Abelmanovskaya, Novosushevsky Lane, Semenovsky Proezd, Rogozhky Val and a number of others.

Among the main benefits of the physical isolation of the tracks, officials cite road safety – fewer accidents on the tracks and the fact that streetcars can run faster and arrive faster. They also justify the controversial decision by the need to develop the tram network.

Meanwhile, on Kalanchevskaya Street, with the advent of snowy weather, boarding a tram at Panteleevskaya Street and the Bolshoy Balkansky Lane stops, as local residents report, has turned into an exciting quest “don’t slip under the tram through a snowdrift.”

– We, the locals, know that there is a curb under the snowdrift and that you should look carefully for a foothold before getting on or off the tram. And how many “foreign” passengers who came here have already “thundered”. And how many motorists have lost their bumpers by hitting what they think is a snowdrift? Now it is impossible to clear the street from snow across the entire width: snow blowers can only pass to the right and left of the tramway and rake additional snowdrifts onto this ill-fated curb. The middle of the street – tram tracks – is completely covered with snow, residents of the Krasnoselsky district write on social networks.

The residents of the Timiryazevsky district are also dissatisfied with their “divorce” on Kostyakova Street, who have already managed to apply to the TsODD on this matter and receive an answer that “they have nothing to do with it it was invented by the city metro officials who are now in charge of the streetcar.”

Replied the residents of the Timiryazevsky district and Deptrans. So, according to the agency, in the period from 01/01/2017 to 17/11/2022, 11 accidents occurred on Kostyakova Street. Admittedly, as activists of the district note, it is not specified whether these accidents led to a stop in the movement of trams. It is not known exactly where the accidents happened. After all, if they have occurred at intersections (and that usually happens), then the curb will not prevent calamities from occurring further.

Also, residents of the Timiryazevsky district have already reported three accidents that have stopped the movement of the tram since the moment of “separation”, and they suggest at least painting the dangerous curb orange. And the proposal to repaint the always brown-gray curb littered with snow perfectly typifies the sad transport policy of the city as a whole.

Instead of reaching out to people and quickly identifying the shortcomings of their innovations, officials prefer to insist with a tenacity worthy of better application that they are doing everything right, and that “the population not specialists”.

Therefore, it is easier to paint a snowdrift orange or nuclear yellow than to admit the idea of building curbs in the most unexpected places of the city, where it is winter, to put it mildly, and is muddy for half a year , has a number of drawbacks.
