AvtoVAZ starts production of the latest crossovers and sedans in the former Nissan factory

St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov and AVTOVAZ President Maxim Sokolov have given the green light to the project to launch the former Nissan plant in St Petersburg. The company will build new crossovers and sedans, and the LADA brand will break into new segments.

Jobs for employees who worked at Nissan will be maintained, and completely new LADA models will appear on the assembly line in mid-2023, including segment D, which was previously not controlled by the Volga residents. It is expected that the VAZ product line will be supplemented with new crossover and sedan.

Equipment for the factory will come from partners in friendly countries, with which negotiations are already in the final stages.

“The current difficult circumstances are a unique opportunity for development. The line of the LADA brand will include cars of higher segments, which, I am sure, will be duly appreciated by our customers. We will make every effort to retain the staff of the St. Petersburg car plant, start the production of cars as soon as possible, increase production volumes and phased localization, including using the St. Petersburg supplier cluster,” said Maxim Sokolov, Chairman of JSC AVTOVAZ.
