Panacea or control shot: is it necessary to unboil the engine

The only car that the absolute majority of Russians can afford today is a used one. Of course, after buying a “beushki” you need to change fluids, filters and belts. And many also think about decarbonization – global cleaning of the engine with powerful chemistry, which removes age-old deposits from the internal elements of the internal combustion engine. But this procedure should be approached with great care. And why, explains the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

So we don’t have to remember anything about new cars for at least another year. Parallel import and small assembly “successes” will be distributed among selected and legal organizations eligible for leasing, and “secondary” awaits everyone else. Having chosen a car to your taste and wallet, paid for it and registered it, the driver goes for mandatory maintenance: oils, belts, candles, filters, pads and discs that require the replacement of components and assemblies. With the last money and “to zero”, no one buys a car, knowing that “additional investments” are needed.

Watching your “new thing” in the elevator, listening to the opinions of the masters, you want to do it once and for all. Theoretically this is possible, practically not. But hope warms the soul, so at the first visit to the gas station, the new owner of the car tries to perform as many operations as possible. At this evil moment, a knowing sound from the mechanic: “Maybe we’ll cheer up the engine, return it to youth and strength?” It’s tempting and cheap. “Of course, let’s remove pounds of dirt and grime by decarbonizing the engine.”

Many car parts for cleaning – of course, it all depends on the level and depth, but certainly on the surface – do not need to be disassembled. Modern oils, whether as a “slurry” for an engine, gearbox, transfer case, axle or cooling system, contain special wax additives that remove dirt through ordinary replacement. But overruns, overheating, the use of low-quality or counterfeit compounds lead to the formation of soot. And to remove it, you need a tool more serious than ordinary oil or “antifreeze”.

Let’s face it: it’s technically impossible to just clean anything in the car. Nothing and nothing. Any, even the most caustic composition, no matter how you pour it into the knot, will remove only part of the “garbage” that has accumulated over the years of use. That’s why we believe the labels, but don’t forget common sense. And don’t forget that there is a “chemistry” that not only “caresses”, but almost tears the “iron” to bare metal. We are not going to advertise, enough has already been said. In it, however, advertisements omit some important “features” of such drugs.

In addition, decarbonization must be carried out by a skilled craftsman, strictly following the instructions: it is said that you need to drain the old oil, then top up the flushing oil, and only then the new means that it is necessary. Savings will cause solid residue to enter the cylinders and result in abrasion. A separate conversation is “folk remedies”, which “kill” the same paint on the oil pan, corrode the gaskets and turn the engine into a “fountain” of oil.

Does this mean that decarbonisation is a verdict? A sober and wealthy driver will say that he will only be happy if everything turns out like this – that the breakdown will be localized in the service, and not on the track. Went through, shook – you can drive safely. But for many this will be very painful news, because “rebuilding” the engine is extremely expensive these days.

So after you’ve decided to go low carbon, especially if it’s a heavily used car whose history is unknown, think about a mild version of the procedure. With it, the engine is cleaned with more “polite” compounds, they are gradually topped up, and the oil is changed every 7000 km. This approach allows the old engine to both clean up and stay in service longer without emergency, but necessary “surgical” manipulations.
