LADA’s main competitor: ultra-cheap and reliable cars go to Russia
The Chinese confidently and effortlessly take the long-suffering Russian car market for themselves, which no one and nothing is against. Like, I didn’t really want to, and indeed everyone is short on cars, and no one needs Tesla anymore, give the ICE. However, Chinese cars are expensive, their segment – from two million rubles. But what about those who need a new car cheaper? Excluding LADA Granta? According to the experts of the AvtoVzglyad portal, a solution to this problem seems to have been found.

Chinese cars are expensive, but the native LADA does not try to lower prices – Vesta still costs more than two million. Even Granta – and that under a million! No competition – no problems in all its glory. But such a situation will not lead to anything good, and the factories in Tolyatti, Izhevsk, Nizhny and Ulyanovsk cannot saturate the domestic market. Import needed. And not parallel, but quite direct and centralized.

So far, of the main partners in the direction described above, there is only China, which has already deployed the entire price segment from two to five million rubles. More expensive – they will bring a well-known business class through parallel imports, but cheaper is a big question. In addition, many such machines are required, tens of thousands, and technologically simple and maintainable, and even with the ability to quickly localize production. The task is not easy, but, as it turned out, solvable.

While all connoisseurs of Russian banks were discussing the requirements for a new domestic budget car, which can be briefly reduced to one column “up to 300,000 rubles”, difficult negotiations were taking place somewhere in quiet offices. We will never know the full truth and details, but one decision (perhaps the most important) has already been published: Iran and Russia impose customs duties on 90% of goods. Together with the active construction of a transport corridor between countries, this can only mean one thing: Iran is becoming important and, I will not be afraid of the word, an equal economic operator throughout the Customs Union. But what does Iran produce? What will be delivered to Russia from Persia?

In addition to “flower products”, Iran has an extremely attractive automotive industry for today’s Russia. Despite half a century of repression through sanctions, the country has managed not only to maintain, but also to develop the “four-wheel sector”. There is something to learn. There should be a paragraph for connoisseurs of “everything was stolen”, “why we couldn’t do it ourselves”, “intercontinental companies and green men”, but we’ll leave it out, there will be brighter conspiracy theories in the comments. An important fact: Iran is ready to deliver its cars to the Russian Federation.

That? First of all – Iran Khodro Tara, a direct competitor of VW Polo Sedan, Skoda Rapid, Kia Rio and Hyundai Solaris. The Persian car is far from being technologically advanced and is inferior in options and comfort to both the “Europeans” and the “Koreans”. However, there is one major factor that allows him to overtake all of the above on the first turn: the price. “Iranian” in their homeland costs about 800,000 rubles. Will there be enough restraint for Russian sellers to make it pretty and offer Tara for 990,000 rubles?

Why did you start with Tara? Yes, because it was she who took a central place at MIMS-2022. We read between the lines. In any other case, the conversation would come from the most famous car in all of Iran – Samand. Yes, old cars from a century ago and the quality of finishing materials is not right. It rots, they say, whether it is the modern “Japanese”, who can stand in an aquarium with Moscow salt for a century. Especially if it’s a white Camry. However, the “Iranian” has an advantage, to put it mildly: in the homeland, “Samand” costs from 420,000 to 560,000 Russian rubles. We add logistics, fees and receivables, we get 700,000 – 800,000 “wooden” in the salon of a Russian dealer. Apparently this is a sufficient description for a sales leader in all areas!

Russia needs budget and ultra budget cars, but they are only available in Iran. There’s the Indian version, of course, but it’s more complicated. If only because the steering wheel in India is on the other side. No doubt it is only a matter of time, but it is not now. Therefore, Iran, so the effective abolition of customs duties.
