Denis Manturov’s department shows another example of an optimistic view of Russia’s automotive future. This time – by editing his own “Strategy for the development of the automotive industry until 2035”. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out what was going on.
It turns out that 2023 should be the year of an explosive recovery of the Russian car market, according to specialists from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Such a conclusion can be drawn from the figures in the updated “Strategy for the development of the automotive industry up to 2035”. According to them, by 2023 the number of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold on the Russian market will reach 960,000 units. In addition, 470,000 will be produced on Russian territory.
Recall that at the end of 2022 new car sales in Russia amounted to 687,000 (data from the Association of European Companies), which is 58.8% less than a year earlier. For example, the car market should grow by 40% in the coming year (in the dreams of the Ministry of Industry and Trade). In particular, this contradicts AVTOVAZ President Maxim Sokolov’s prediction at the Russian Industrialists’ Forum. According to him, the Russian car market will close next year, resulting in approximately 800,000 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold.
In the vision of the future of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, one more detail attracts attention: the sale on the market of 470,000 cars produced in Russia. The fact is that AVTOVAZ’s officially approved production plan is 400,000 units. The remaining 70,000 from the estimates of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, apparently, will fall on the products of UAZ and a whole bunch of newfangled enterprises for the assembly of Chinese cars in the Russian Federation. For example, the ministry expects 500,000 new cars to be imported into Russia from abroad by 2023.
In our country, about the same number of foreign cars were sold in 2022. But these were mainly cars from European, Japanese and Korean brands, which were brought to us before the well-known events. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce apparently assumes that this volume will be replaced by car deliveries from China, Iran, India and Vietnam. Which will lead to the final registration of the dominance of the “Chinese” in the Russian car market. According to Vedomosti, the updated strategy to “turn the Russian car market into an appendage of the Chinese” was approved on December 28, 2022.
