Deptrans returns artificial traffic jams on the Volokolamsk highway in Moscow

The circle is closed: special lanes for public transport appeared again on the Volokolamsk highway. Unless, of course, one can call the reinforced concrete stubborn course of the Deptrans of the capital to worsen the conditions for driving a car around the city of Moscow a “circle”. The AvtoVzglyad portal now recommends choosing routes around this place.

It was on Volokolamka in the already distant 2009 that the Moscow Ministry of Transport under the leadership of Maxim Liksutov first began large-scale means tests of the patience of the city’s motorists. In the summer of that year, the first “separated road” in the capital was painted on the Volokolamsk highway. From a six-lane highway that was wildly congested during rush hour, they suddenly took one lane in each direction and “gnawed off”. Everyone who came after it immediately became very clear: the assigned lane must be urgently eliminated. Unless, of course, you care about the bandwidth of the capital’s streets.

But Deptrans had been watching with satisfaction the torment of drivers in this place for four years – until 2013, when, under the pressure of evidence, the “segregated lane” was nevertheless removed. Motorists breathed a sigh of relief: 30% of the recovered capacity was worth a thousand breaths. And so the authorities decided to return here with a “devotee”. Now the selected lanes are painted on the section between Panfilov and Akademika Kurchatov streets. But that doesn’t matter: here the highway has recently been widened to five lanes in each direction. “Gnawing” will burden the situation with congestion, but not much. Worse one more.

Vydelenka returned to the section between the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo Park and the tunnel under the Moscow Canal. After 2013, cars could drive in three lanes here. Now two again. In the evening, the traffic jam will stretch from here all the way to Sokol, completely paralyzing this entire exit from the city center … But according to Deptrans’s bravura calculations, the buses are going as much as 8 minutes faster! How many hours longer thousands of motorists and their passengers will overcome the same section of the outgoing highway, the improvers officials do not care.

It is also touching that the “marked line” will be drawn even on the revolving viaduct over the tunnel of the “Moscow Canal”. It is claimed that public transport will pass 1 minute faster thanks to this measure. Seriously, this wild statement can only be made by those who have never traveled along the said viaduct. For them, we inform you that it is almost impossible to see at least 3-4 cars on the overpass at the same time (apart from a lone bus). On it, no cars have ever interfered with public transport and do not interfere now. The only obvious reason to draw a “highlight” on this spot is to later put up a police camera and fine the careless drivers.
