In 2022, the average age of a car in Russia will be 14 years. This figure has grown in recent years, so there is nothing surprising. Another question is whether the pace of this growth will noticeably accelerate in the near future, and this promises us great dangers.
The increasing shortage of spare parts and a multifold increase in their costs make used car owners refuse qualified repairs: they try to solve the problem themselves or postpone the solution until later – hoping that the iron horse still does not fall part. And as a result, more and more defective vehicles appear on our roads, posing a real danger to road safety.
Perhaps it is for this reason that the authorities decided to expand the list of malfunctions and ailments that prohibit the operation of the car. The document has already been approved by experts and sent for government approval. Recall that the new edition includes fines for using summer tires in winter and studded tires in summer, broken brake lights, reversing lights and an ABS error on the dashboard.
In addition, the traffic police received the approval of another list of errors – those for which they are punished not only with a ruble, but also with a parking space. Among them: shades, problems with the suspension, handbrake, ABS, power steering and brake light, misaligned headlights, “bald” tires, lack of a seat belt. The car owner must rectify the defect and then go through the standard technical inspection procedure. Of course not for free.
And it seems that this is only the first step in returning such a useless procedure as MOT to the status of mandatory for absolutely all car owners. First wake up call. It is hard to believe that the repressive state machine will not take advantage of the current situation and miss the opportunity to “milk” the drivers. Moreover, the corrupt and rusty TO mechanism is still alive and ready to effectively control both the budget and our money.
