Goodbye, Qashqai: Nissan Kicks budget crossover arrived in Russia

The main Nissan crossover in Russia is the Qashqai. Hundreds of thousands of sold cars of all generations, ubiquitous on the roads from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. But the popular Japanese brand is no longer in our country, and therefore cars are now imported instead of the official distributor by independent dealers. And those cars, I must say, are no worse.

Nissan, which could never “creep away” from Renault, handed over its St. Petersburg plant to NAMI and waved a hand at Russia. Official deliveries of lock and key, spare parts and especially new cars are not expected in the foreseeable future. But Nissan is a popular brand, Japanese cars have been loved in Russia since ancient times, so we hope that the temporary incompetence of the official distributor “manually” was compensated by parallel imports. So, in particular, the Qashqai was replaced by another crossover that can fill the left niche – the Kicks model.

Kicks is a compact car produced since 2016 at Nissan’s facilities in Mexico. Initially, it was not intended for Europe and Russia (while it was part of the Old World) due to the simplicity of the design, the scarcity of equipment and, as a result, the low price and maintenance costs. It is unprofitable for the manufacturer, and wealthy Russians who look at the premium segment are not interested. But if marketing had anything to do with the real needs of the population, Kicks would have been on sale with us long ago.

Built on the basis of the Nissan Micra, the Kicks crossover is a direct relative of the Juke, which was once popular in Russia, despite its ambiguous appearance. “Kiks” is bigger, neater and stricter. It is equipped with a CVT or a five-speed “mechanics” in combination with 1.5 or 1.6 liter petrol engines. The first is a rarity in our market, but there are many second, 124 horsepower with a CVT. As for the drivetrain, it’s only the front. However, like most SUVs sold in Russia.

Ask price? For 1,800,000 – 2,200,000 rubles you can buy a new car with the maximum equipment with keyless entry, all-round cameras and even a standard Bose audio system. Climate control, leather upholstery, heated mirrors and seats are available. On the center console – a large screen for multimedia control, on the dashboard – a more modest monochrome.

Nissan Kicks not only outperforms the Juke in terms of size – it is more spacious, richer in equipment and concise in appearance. But at the same time it costs less than the new LADA Vesta. The military says that there are no problems with spare parts for standard American equipment – in a few weeks new body elements will be found, which even some officially delivered cars cannot boast of now.

In general, a full-fledged replacement for the Nissan Qashqai has been found. Thanks parallel import!
