Despite the government: Russian banks do not believe in the growth of the car market

Experts from VTB Bank estimate the growth potential of the Russian new car market in 2023 as minimal. Rapid recovery after the collapse of 2022, they say, will not be possible. The AvtoVzglyad portal got acquainted with their sad forecast.

– An important factor on which the gradual recovery of the market will depend is the cost of cars. And since price growth will slow down in the next twelve months, we can expect sales of about 700,000 new cars in the country, which will be about 6% higher than last year’s result, – said Vladimir Vysotsky, VTB Vice President, Head of the car loan sales organization.

At the same time, which is curious, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has other “views on the harvest”. The agency’s recently revised Automotive Development Strategy to 2035 states that 960,000 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will be sold by 2023. That is already 40% more than in the past, if we focus on the data of the Association of European Companies (its experts, we recall, counted 687,000 cars sold in the Russian Federation). Thus, we can note a complete discrepancy between the forecasts for the development of the Russian car market of financial sector practitioners and theorists of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
