O National Road Traffic Council (Contran) is studying mandatory emergency braking and lane departure warning from 2026.

Contran is considering this opportunity to improve the safety of new cars in Brazilian traffic.

New must-have items for cars in 2026

Leimar Mafort, Technical Director of Bosch, explains the importance of emergency braking:

“In Brazil, regulated testing will be carried out at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h.“, He said. “The requirement is that up to 40 km / h the car cannot crash. At 60 km/h, the impact speed should drop to 35 km/h. The goal is to avoid collisions in some situations and reduce their severity in others.“.

With regard to the stop assistant, vehicles must issue audible and/or visual warnings and this will be mandatory if the vehicle speed exceeds 65 km/h.

Keeping in mind that Contran is still under study and there are no predictions of when it will be completed.
