Sedan Kaiyi E5: what does Chery have to do with the “killer” LADA Vesta
Life at Avtotor is on fire again – the production of cars from the Chinese brand Kaiyi has begun. The first model to appear on the assembly line was the E5 sedan, built on the basis of the outdated Arrizo 7 of the Chery Automobile concern. And since the latter not only owns nearly half of the shares of Yibin Kaiyi Automobile Co (aka Kaiyi Motors, aka Cowin Auto), but is also responsible for the technical component of Kai products, the decision to enter Russia smacks to deal with these cars of corporate cannibalism.

If only because the brand’s products will be much cheaper than Chery and Omoda’s analogues. However, Chery’s Russian office not only has nothing to do with what is produced in Kaliningrad, but also sees no particular problems in this.

“No, no, no, our company has nothing to do with Kaiyi cars (nor with another sub-brand of Chery – the Jetour brand),” Vladimir Shmakov, director of JSC Chery Automobiles Rus, told the AvtoVzglyad portal . — And if we ignore the global connection of the above brands with Chery Corporation and consider the situation exclusively within our country, then we can say that we have only one competitor left. But you see, the consumer always wins over healthy rivalry…

And Mr. Shmakov’s Olympic composure is quite understandable. After all, the “older brother” cast-offs, which will be produced at Avtotor, are unlikely to compete with the more advanced models from Chery itself, and Omoda and Exeed. But from whom Kaiyi and Jetour can really select potential customers, it is from AvtoVAZ.

After all, the price of the same Kaiyi E5, according to TASS, will be less than 1 million rubles for a simple consumer, while now you can not take its direct competitor, LADA Vesta, for less than two “lyamas”.

By the way, it is not the Kaliningrad automaker itself that will sell Kaiyi cars, but Kai Rus LLC, which promises to bring two more crossovers to the Russian market by the end of the year, in addition to the sedan.
