The 2.2-liter supercharged “diesel” (197 and 200 hp) requires regular cleaning of the high-pressure fuel pump, throttle valve and EGR valve. Otherwise, work problems are inevitable. In addition, the engine likes to eat oil: 0.5 liters per 100 km is considered the norm. It also has a low particulate filter.

The six-speed hydromechanical “automatic” does not cause any special problems, but it is necessary to change the working fluid in it every 40,000 km. Otherwise jerks when shifting are unavoidable.

But the four-wheel drive system is rather weak. It is necessary to just push the front wheels when they skid in the snow. Therefore, a serious “mud mixer” is contraindicated for a car. In addition, the angle gear spline joints are poorly protected against water and dirt. Without cleaning and maintenance, they will rust. It even comes to a replacement, which hurts the wallet.

The suspension is quite firm. Here only wheel bearings need attention, which are replaced after 70,000 km. Silent blocks live about the same. But in general, the Hyundai Santa Fe will not disappoint, although we repeat that it is better to take restyled ones. They are less of a problem.
