Gazelle, beware: Chery will sell commercial vehicles in Russia

Automakers from the Middle Kingdom have established themselves in almost all niches of the Russian car market. And they only intend to strengthen their presence. Also in the light commercial vehicle segment. In particular, as the AvtoVzglyad portal found out, Chery is ready to join her ranks.

Admittedly, Vladimir Shmakov, director of Chery Automobiles JSC, speaks rather cautiously about Chery’s plans to climb into this clearing, although he does not deny the brand’s appetite for business cars:

– According to many Russians, Chery is a relatively small line of sedans and crossovers. But in fact, we have a lot of interesting things in our arsenal, including commercial vehicles,” the top manager told AvtoVzglyad portal. “But I can say for sure that this year we are unlikely to please domestic motorists with our novelties for business, since it takes time to study the potential demand and adapt cars to Russian operating conditions. But in 2024 there is a good chance that the name Chery will also resonate in the comtrans segment.

The chief of the brand’s Russian office has not revealed all the cards, but it is already clear that pickups will hardly be among the imported models (the demand for them among Russians is painfully low), but we may have something like a VW Multivan, Citroën Jumpy or Peugeot Boxer see under the nameplate Chery.
