The statistics are disappointing
Can conclusions be drawn from the above? Doubtless. For example, how do you like this: almost all world brands have in their assortment, in addition to fashionable crossovers, sedans, which they also have to sell in one way or another. I do not like? Little optimism? What to do, how much to eat – so much to eat. No one knows and cannot even imagine how many of these announced models will be in demand in the Russian market. Perhaps the matter will be limited to the delivery of a few dozen cars a month, and all the steam, as they say, will blow its whistle.
Moreover, the statistics do not confirm any shift in consumer interests in favor of sedans. According to the Avtostat agency, 347,200 new crossovers and SUVs were purchased in Russia by the end of 2022, accounting for 55.4% of the total market. And in January of the current year, the share of SUVs rose to 63%. Here is such a non-standard counteroffensive, leading to the loss of initial positions.
Swimming in muddy water
Another interesting plunge into the dark topic of the return of sedans to the leading position was made by Vincent Kobe, CEO of Citroën, as the AvtoVzglyad portal has already written. True, the top manager of the French company did not comment on current trends, but predicted a very controversial future. Mr Kobe said that due to the rapid growth of electric vehicle production, crossovers will be on the verge of extinction.
That in the petrol world the energy loss from the high, angular body with crappy aerodynamics can be compensated by simply increasing the volume of the fuel tank. In an electric car, the penalty for aerodynamic inefficiency is an order of magnitude higher – you will have to install extra heavy batteries. Therefore, says the head of Citroën, cars (all of which will be electric vehicles per wheel) will soon be compact, squat, streamlined and light – that is, sedans.
