Various rumors are now circulating in the media and social networks about a possible series of car models that AVTOVAZ may assemble in the facilities of the former
A source in the St. Petersburg government who wished to remain anonymous said that Nissan Manufacturing Rus, based in the city, which has now come under the control of AVTOVAZ, will soon begin assembling the Chinese crossover FAW Bestune T77 . At least, this option is “in close study”.
And AvtoVAZ president Maxim Sokolov said earlier that the company plans to restart the business in the second half of 2023. Later, in an interview with the AvtoVzglyad portal, Dmitry Kostromin, vice president of sales and marketing of JSC AVTOVAZ, said that the Togliatti automaker intends to “go into segments C and D”. Because until recently it only produced cars in the B segment.
— We confirm our plans to start production of new models under the LADA brand in St. Petersburg in the second half of 2023. There are no other details yet — this is how AVTOVAZ representatives commented on the newly released information about plans to produce FAW Bestune T77 today in St. Petersburg facilities.
It should be noted that FAW, one of China’s largest automakers, more than logically entered an assembly plant in St. Petersburg.
Especially against the background of increased activity in this direction by such a competitor as JAC, whose crossovers are already assembled in Moscow under the Moskvich brand, and commercial models are produced in Yelabuga under the name Sollers Atlant and Argo. At the moment it is not yet known exactly under which name the FAW Bestune T77 will be rolled out on the Russian market. According to some reports, it could become the second generation LADA XRAY. Although earlier Dmitry Kostromin told the AvtoVzglyad portal about plans to produce a car with that name only in 2025 and in the company’s Togliatti facilities.
At the first stage, the assembly of the model will most likely be a “screwdriver” – from car kits from China. But over time, it has every chance to acquire a deeper degree of localization in Russia. Since the St. Petersburg enterprise has full-fledged stamping, welding and body painting lines. Note that Bestune T77 is now sold on the Russian market at a price of 2 million rubles. The car is equipped only with a front-wheel drive, a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 160 liters. with., as well as a six-speed “mechanics” or a 7-band “robot”.
With the start of production under the LADA brand, the Chinese crossover has every chance of disappearing from the showrooms of official FAW dealers in Russia. In the same way as it already happened with the JAC JS4 crossover – after it began to be produced at the former Renault plant in Moscow under the guise of Moskvich 3.
