According to the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), the export volume of used cars from South Korea to Russia will increase almost tenfold (12.6 times) by 2022. The total value of used cars exported from the Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation increased from $45.34 million in 2021 to $572.76 million in 2022.
In numerical terms, exports of used vehicles to Russia reached 19,626 units in 2022, compared to 2,358 units a year earlier. In other words, 8.3 times more “Koreans” were brought to us by mileage. The average cost of a used car arriving from Korea in 2022 was $29,200 (in 2021 it was $19,200). Since the same figure for all used car imports to Russia is about $7,300.
Recall that in 2022, 213,500 used vehicles entered Russian territory from neighboring Japan. This is 32% more than in 2021. For comparison, AVTOVAZ only managed to sell 188,600 of its cars last year. At the same time, of all foreign car manufacturers, only the “Chinese” continued to supply our country. The resulting shortage of raw materials on the domestic market for new cars was partly compensated by a strong increase in imports of second-hand cars.
