More cameras and fines: traffic police complexes have learned to detect another violation
For a year now, a myth has been circulating on the Internet that the arsenal of cameras for shooting violations on domestic roads is about to dry up, since the electronics are all imported and no one will provide them to us. Despite the universal obstruction from all sides, this industry not only kept its position, but also moved forward in the technological direction, teaching the complexes and the “web” new skills.

Recently, extremely entertaining news surfaced – from now on “forest thieves”, illegal tree fellers, will be sought and fined through photo and video recording systems for traffic violations. If the truck does not have an electronic accompanying document – this is not a piece of paper with a seal for you, it is extremely difficult to forge it – then the system will automatically make a decision about it, and also transmit the information to all traffic police posts so that they grab car. Well, if for some unknown reason the traffic cop “blinks” the car, then they will find out already higher – in the internal security service.

Moreover: this story has already been “run in” in practice. In August last year, the Forestry Agency of the Russian Federation, together with the companies TBDD and RT-Geotech, implemented a pilot project “to identify the facts of unlicensed timber transport” in the Perm Territory. And thanks to this experiment, it turned out that more than 30% of the transport is carried out “illegally” – that is, without the necessary permits in the electronic database.

– It was confirmed in practice that the technology proposed by our company allows us to record the fact of a violation and prepare the necessary materials for further drawing up protocols for an administrative violation. We are confident that the solution we have developed is ready to be scaled to the whole country. However, for this it is necessary to finalize the existing legislation, – said Dmitry Sychikov, general director of TBDD.

So we can if we want? But August last year is almost the most difficult time for the country in the last thirty years: the old stocks of everything imported ran out, and new ones were imported in one quantity. A wave of international sanctions bombarded many sectors of Russian industry, but there were areas that not only survived, but continued to actively develop. Apparently someone needed it and the straws were laid out ahead of time.

For example, technologies for photo-video recording of violations are a localized industry. The same Azimut has been producing complexes for almost a quarter of a century and is an all-Russian company. Yes, some spare parts were bought, but the warehouses were full, which gave time to reorganize production for new suppliers from China. Should this experience be transferred to other industries? Preferably. And earlier.

You can like or dislike cameras, but we have to live with them. No one will take them off – it’s forever. From now on they are the same part of the road as asphalt and markings, verge with signs. And the only way not to be fined is not to transgress. The video surveillance system will not only continue to work, but will also evolve, learning to recognize new violations and endlessly automating the process. And this is even good: the more operations a robot or artificial intelligence performs, the fewer errors will result from the “human factor” or fraud opportunities. You can’t bribe the camera.
