Who hasn’t once spilled some liquid on the floor or upholstery of their or someone else’s car? It’s a matter of life, it happens. Even if a stain remains, you can always turn to the services of a car wash and order a dry cleaning of the interior, eliminating all traces of what happened. Spilled coffee is essentially water with a relatively small amount of tasty substances dissolved in it. Once on the floor or cladding, it usually penetrates the surface and remains in the material until it dries naturally. In most cars, everything is fine with anti-corrosion treatment, even of the internal surfaces of the body, and there is no danger of rust due to a coffee incident.
But the nuance is different here, namely in the electronics that modern cars are crammed with. It’s no secret that hundreds of meters of wires are now laid on the bottom of a passenger car body, connecting absolutely all the electrical and electronic devices of the car. They are connected to each other and to various electronic units by means of special end connectors. And all these electrical intricacies are hidden from the motorist’s eyes under a low carpet. When some liquid is spilled on it, sooner or later moisture will get on the “limit switches”. And eventually it penetrates and causes corrosion of the contacts in it and then in the wiring harnesses.
For starters, this leads to all sorts of “malfunctions” in the car’s electrical system, with “rotten” connections and wires creating unplanned electrical contacts. Once the problem has started, the soaked cables may begin to rot completely over time. Once spilled coffee in the cabin can become a “straw that broke the camel’s back” in light of the failure of the car’s electronic control units.
The fact is that on the floor of the passenger compartment of many cars, such devices as the airbag control unit, the comfort unit (responsible for the operation of electric windows, lighting in the car, adjustment and heating mirrors, opening and closing door locks ) and others. These components are already forced to work for long periods in conditions of increased humidity due to the moisture that the driver and passengers regularly bring into the cabin. Their premature failure can be accelerated if a glass of coffee accidentally spilled on the carpet is added to the standard humidity level. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that, like the control units in the cabin, the wiring harnesses are often not produced by external auto parts factories. This means that their replacement is often only possible with original spare parts.
The latter frightened car owners with their high cost, and in light of the consequences of the Ukrainian events, they began to cost their weight in gold and even more. For example, coffee spilled into the interior of a car can turn out to be a real sabotage, ruining the car owner overnight.
