Car sharing can increase in price several times at the same time

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation, which defends the interests of perpetually suffering insurers, proposed to place shared cars in a separate OSAGO tariff group. What does this mean for regular users? A significant increase in prices for rental cars in the short term: prices will increase several times, according to experts.

Insurers complained that the car-sharing segment had become too unprofitable, and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation took action – sending letters proposing changes to OSAGO to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport. If the idea of making short-term rental cars in a separate rate group “avtocitizens” is supported, operators will have to pay much more for policies. And who reimburses them for these costs? That’s right – users.

Experts and market parties interviewed by our colleagues at Kommersant agree that the base rate will rise sharply. Mid-range cars can “price” by 15-25%, and budget cars – by 30% at a time when you rent a car for 30-40 minutes. However, some believe that prices will go even higher – they will immediately rise two or three times.

On the other hand, price increases may be hampered by the need to compete with taxis and other public transportation. After all, if the price of a short-term rental increases sharply, the number of users will also decrease, and there is no profit for anyone except, perhaps, for taxi drivers.

As for representatives of insurance companies, they assure that the measure proposed by the Central Bank will reduce unprofitability, and this, in turn, will allow them to rewrite OSAGO prices for prudent drivers. Yes, we heard something similar when we expanded the car citizen fare corridor last fall. Prices noticeably “heavier” not only for malicious rescuers, but for everyone in general – even those who can boast of minimal KBM.
